Somerset County Man Charged with Possession of Child Pornography on a Laptop and on DVDs

TRENTON, NJ—A Somerset County, New Jersey man was arrested today after law enforcement officers discovered alleged child pornography on a computer and on DVDs at his residence, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

David W. Tuytjens, 56, of Bridgewater, New Jersey, is charged by complaint with one count of possession of child pornography. Tuytjens is scheduled to appear today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Douglas E. Arpert.

According to the criminal complaint:

In April of last year, officers from the New Jersey State Parole Board examined Tuytjens’ laptop computer on a visit to his residence. The parole officers conducted the visit because Tuytjens was subject to community supervision for life for prior convictions for sexual assault. The officers determined that the computer contained multiple images of child pornography, which appeared to have been downloaded from the Internet. The officers also discovered nine DVDs containing pictures and videos of the sexual abuse of children.

Because of his prior conviction on sexual assault charges, the count of possessing child pornography with which Tuytjens is charged is punishable by a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison and a maximum potential penalty of 20 years and a $250,000 fine.

U.S. Attorney Fishman credited the FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward in Newark, with the investigation leading to today’s arrest.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney John E. Clabby of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Trenton.

The charge and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations, and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
