The year was 2008 and the only environmental project Donald Trump supported was a 2008 superficial branding project at Jones Beach State Park in New York that provided no benefit to the environment and a project he was to be paid for. A New York State official called the project not prudent. In comparison in 2008 the Lake Worth Lagoon Restoration Project of Florida would mean improved water quality and benefits to the environment, Donald Trump would sue in a Florida court to block the project.
Being in a position to help out at Jones Beach has been a tremendous feeling. I know detractors will be pleasantly surprised when they see how well integrated the design will be with the environment and the park.

Last week Mr. Trump and the state parks commissioner, Rose Harvey, announced the death of Trump on the Ocean, the $24-million project and branding opportunity that Mr. Trump had been trying to build at Jones Beach since 2006. Because of the October storm, which wrecked the construction site, and the probability of future storms, it became obvious that building a huge new structure at the water’s edge was “not prudent,” Ms. Harvey said in a statement. But the project was never prudent — not now and not in 2006, when Mr. Trump and his partner Steven Carl, a Long Island businessman, struck the deal. The terms then were bad — a 40-year lease at ridiculously cheap rent.
A Florida court would rule against Donald J. Trump.
