Governor Nikki Haley likes to brag that South Carolina is doing great but its telling when your Governor is trying to cut the budget for our Veteran Cemetery. Veterans Cemetery funding is significantly less compare to a lot of programs and state agencies, so I find it surprising that Governor Haley would cut the cemetery budget for our brave men and women.
The Veterans Cemetery falls under the Department of Administration.
SECTION 1-11-10. Department of Administration established; transfer of offices, divisions, other agencies.
(A) There is hereby created, within the executive branch of the state government, the Department of Administration, headed by a director appointed by the Governor upon the advice and consent of the Senate who only may be removed pursuant to Section 1-3-240(B). Effective July 1, 2015, the following offices, divisions, or components of the former State Budget and Control Board, Office of the Governor, or other agencies are transferred to, and incorporated into, the Department of Administration:
We certainly can’t predict how many Veterans will die in 2016, so how do you cut not only operation cost but funding for positions.
Think about this, we increased funding for the Confederate Relic Room for a confederate flag and yet we cut funding for South Carolina’s Veterans Cemetery.
The Department of Commerce the Governor proposed a nice increase, but not to our heroes last place of rest.
Veterans day is on November 2011 and Memorial Day is on May 30, 2016.
Our cemeteries are just as important as those holidays and monuments, museums honoring our brave men and women, so I repeat it comes as a surprise to see the Governor Proposed a budget cut to such a small program.
